Break-a-leg - UK actors casting advice

Go break-a-leg

Elaine Eaglestone Actors Advice casting advice, childrens casting

Acting is one of the most demanding, difficult and unpredictable careers you can choose, yet if acting is in your bones, there ain’t nothing else that can satisfy you! It is hugely rewarding, very exciting and SO much fun. To succeed in the acting business, you need an unwavering determination and self-belief.

There will be countless knock backs and rejections and it is important not to take things to heart. Maybe your hair was not the colour they wanted, maybe you were a bit too tall for that job, maybe they had seen someone else that day that simply fit the role better than you; whatever it is though, if you have talent and passion, there will be acting roles out there for you.

Stay true to who you are, learn from those who you respect and are succeeding but don’t try to change to fit a mould. There will always be a need for actors and actresses of all different shapes, sizes, age, ethnicity and so on. Be willing to keep learning though, go to workshops, try classes, meet people in the industry and just keep learning.

Auditions are not a test! There is a problem and you are potentially the solution. Remember that the Casting Director is on your side and they want you to be right for the role. Just go in there and show them how you can be their solution. From the moment you walk into that room you are showing the Casting Director, Agent and Director their potential solution.

It is likely that they will make up their minds within the first 10 seconds of meeting you, so there is no time to warm up into it, just go in there and do your best. Once you have left that casting or audition, as difficult as it may be, forget about it and focus on the next opportunity.

Finally, one the most important things to remember is make the most of each opportunity, as you never know where it may take you or what doors it may open. You also don’t know when the next job is coming so enjoy every moment of it. Now go out there and break-a-leg!
